NASRID
COLLECTION

The Magos Foundation has launched a collection dedicated to the last Muslim Kings of Western Europe. This collection highlights the contribution of these historical figures to the West. It illustrates their vision of interfaith dialogue as well as the little-known history of their descendants. The objective is to set up a touring exhibition in the form of an immersive film:
KINGS OF GRANADA’S SPLENDORS & POSTERITY

THE NASRID KINGDOM OF GRANADA
MALAGA, ALMERIA, BAZA, GUADIX
& GIBRALTAR:
A REFUGE FOR THE OPPRESSED

“In the Middle Ages, Jews and Muslims were the object of incessant persecution in Christian Spain. Granada served as a refuge for many who felt threatened. In 1367, Emir Muhammad V, during military operations, took with him 300 Jewish families in order to spare them the torments of Christian repression. In 1391, many cities in the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, from Seville to Barcelona, were the scene of pogroms. When they could, the threatened Jews moved to the kingdom of Granada. The establishment of the Inquisition in 1481 brought a similar influx of Jewish converts to Christianity, who were the main target of the terrible tribunal. Several Christians sought asylum in Granada after being persecuted for having uttered views considered unorthodox.” Bernard Vincent, Director of Studies at the « High School of Social Sciences »
