CREATION BY A DESIGNER OF THE DRESS
OF EMPRESS THEODORA
OF BYZANTIUM, EMBROIDERED
WITH THE EFFIGY OF THE MAGI

(as it was represented in the mosaics
of St. Vital of Ravenna in the 6th century)

First sovereign to be represented in the posture of the adoration of the Magi, Theodora inaugurated the Basilica of Hagia Sophia on the arm of her husband, Emperor Justinian. The Empress would have served as inspiration for some mosaics.
