Tertullian of Carthage (2nd century), founder of Western theology, makes the link in a poetic version between the prophecies of Tharsis in the Old Testament and the Magi: “David (King of Israel, father of Solomon) foresaw in his psalms the honor given to his God. Then appear in the depths of the East, the wise men depositing at the feet of the infant Jesus, tributes of gold and incense.”
