Original documents signed by subsequent Catholic Kings

confirming the attribution of the title of Marquis of Campotejar and Governor (Alcadia) of the Generalife to the descendants of the Granada Venegas lineage

1761 (Spain, 18th c.) Magos Foundation Collection

IN THE 17TH CENTURY, THE GRIMALDI OF GENOA, RELATED TO THE GRIMALDI OF MONACO, BECAME THE NEW MASTERS OF THE GENERALIFE

In the 7th generation, Juan de Granada Venegas Ochoa (1589-1660) died without children. He was succeeded as Marquess of Campotéjar and Governor of the Generalife by a great-grandson of Catalina de Granada Venegas Rengifo, married to a merchant from Genoa, Esteban Lomellini. From 1661, the title of Marquess of Campotéjar and Governor of the Generalife passes to a lineage in Genoa. By successive marriages, the title will be passed to the Grimaldi family of Genoa. Giovanni Battista Grimaldi Lomellini (1673-1757), Doge of the Republic of Genoa from 1752 to 1754, will be the 14th Marquess of Campotejar and Governor of the Generalife.
