Original handwritten document signed by Queen Juana of Castile

dated 1510, stamped with the royal seal, with the purpose of the Reconquista and protection of the frontier coasts against the Moorish attacks.

It is written that Royal power authorizes the city of Loja (the gateway to Granada), recently conquered, "to recruit soldiers with the objective of guarding the coasts of the Kingdom of Granada and prevent the Moors, enemies of the faith, from causing damage and losses." The document specifies that the infantry and cavalry would be under the command of Don Luis de Mendoza
