ALONSO GRANADA VENEGAS, HEAD OF THE NAZARI SOVEREIGN HOUSE, ESTABLISHED HIMSELF IN SPANISH CHRISTIAN NOBILITY.

Son of Cidi Yahya bin Yahya (Don Pedro de Granada Venegas), Alonso Granada Venegas (1467-1534), born Ali Omar ibn Nazar, played the role of peacemaker with the Morisco community after the fall of Granada. In 1506 he was the infantry leader who conquered Oran in 1509. He was named "Commander of the Armada" in 1516. He accumulated lands and privileges thanks to his victories, especially in Campotéjar and Jayena. His marriage to Juana de Mendoza, from one of the most prestigious and influential Christian lines of Castile, niece of Cardinal Pedro Gonzalez de Mendoza, confirmed his place among the Christian elite of the time.
