NAMES OF THE THREE WISE MEN'S
HORSES APPEAR IN THE 15th CENTURY

The medieval Irish manuscript Leabhar Breac (15th c.) gives the names of the Magi’s horses: Dromann-Darii, Madian, and Effan. These names are an interpretation of the writings of the Old Testament: “Multitudes of camels will cover you, young beasts of Midian and Ephah, all will come from Sheba bringing gold and incense” Isaiah 60.6
