Molding of a church altarpiece
bas-relief, Henri II
renaissance style.

(France, early 20th c.)
Magos Foundation Collection

The original work is by François Gentil (16th c.). The present work was created by sculptor Pierre Chirey, a marble worker in Bar-sur-Seine in the early 20th century. He notably created war memorials after the First World War and participated in the restoration of churches in Champagne. The original was damaged and is in the Church of Bar-sur-Seine in the Aube. Only the molding remains intact, which makes this altarpiece unique. (France, early 20th c.) Magos Foundation Collection
