with, in its center, a famous sentence that would have been pronounced by the Sultana Aixa, Boabdil's mother, when they left Granada: "Llora como mujer lo que no has sabido defender como hombre" (Cry like a woman for what you could not defend like a man)

(Spain, 21st century)
Magos Foundation Collection

No historical record proves that the mother of the last King of Granada uttered these words. Father Juan de Echevarria made these words, attributed to the Sultana Aixa, famous in his 1764 book "Paseos por Granada", in which he describes a weak and whining King Boabdil, which is probably far from the historical reality.
