SIX TO TWELVE MAGI
ACCORDING TO EASTERN CHURCHES

The manuscript “Revelation of the Three Wise Men” (3rd century) from Egypt translated in the 8th century in the Byzantine Zuqnin Monastery in present-day Turkey gives the names of 12 wise men. James of Edessa (Syriac Orthodox Church, 7th century) speaks of 12 princes. In “The Life of Jesus in Arabic/Syriac Infancy Gospel,” they are between 3 and 12.
