THE HEIRESS OF THE AZTEC THRONE, DESCENDANT OF THE KINGS OF GRANADA

The Conquistador Alonso Valiente, the companion of Christopher Columbus, had a son with the daughter of the last Aztec Emperor Moctezuma, named Juan Perez-Valiente de Moctezuma. The latter married in Monachil (Granada) Francisca de Granada Venegas, from the lineage of the Emir Yusuf IV of Granada. A descendant titled Countess of Miravalle is today the Heiress of the Aztec throne of Moctézuma. She is the last one to have received from the Mexican government the "pension of Moctezuma," 1.48 kg of gold per year. This privilege was abolished in 1933.
