SPANISH LINEAGE OF THE MARQUESSES OF CAMPOTÉJAR & GOVERNORS OF THE GENERALIFE OVER 7 GENERATIONS

After the fall of the Nasrid dynasty in 1492, the Generalife was administered by a Governor appointed by Isabel the Catholic and Fernando of Aragon. The third governor was Gil Vasquez Rengifo, whose father had participated in the reconquest of Granada. His daughter, Maria Rengifo, married Pedro de Granada Venegas Mendoza, grandson of Don Pedro Granada (baptized by Isabel, the Catholic monarch), who became the new Master of the Generalife after the death of his father-in-law in 1537. Successive Catholic kings would grant the use of the Generalife to the Granada Venegas, descendants of King Yusuf IV, over several generations.
