EXPULSION OF THE MOORS (1619)

The expulsion of the Moors from Spain was enacted by King Philip III of Spain on April 9, 1609. It signified the abandonment of Spanish territories by the Moriscos, descendants of Muslim populations converted to Christianity by the decree of the "Catholic Monarchs" of February 14, 1502.
