Intent\u00f3 resistir la invasi\u00f3n otomana en 1534. Los europeos no pod\u00edan so\u00f1ar con un escenario mejor para acudir en ayuda de un supuesto descendiente de los Reyes Magos e imponer su influencia en la tierra del Islam. El pintor flamenco Vermeyen, que acompa\u00f1\u00f3 a la delegaci\u00f3n encabezada por el emperador Carlos V en ayuda de este nuevo aliado, inmortaliz\u00f3 las batallas y pint\u00f3 un retrato del sult\u00e1n que hab\u00eda hecho masacrar a todos sus hermanos para llegar al poder. El pintor tambi\u00e9n realiz\u00f3 un retrato de Ahmad, el ambicioso hijo del sult\u00e1n, al que imagin\u00f3 como el rey mago Baltasar.
