El tercer gobernador fue Gil V\u00e1squez Rengifo, cuyo padre hab\u00eda participado en la reconquista de Granada. Su hija Mar\u00eda Rengifo se cas\u00f3 con Pedro de Granada Venegas Mendoza, nieto de Don Pedro Granada (bautizado por Isabel la Cat\u00f3lica) que se convirti\u00f3 en el nuevo Maestre del Generalife tras la muerte de su suegro en 1537.
